Aim of the position

Our organization is an international NGO operating in 41 countries, committed to addressing global challenges through international cooperation projects. We are looking for a dynamic and passionate individual to join our Mozambique team as Emergency Coordinator.
Under the supervision of the Country Program Coordinator, the Emergency Program Manager has the key responsibility to coordinate and ensure the successful development and implementation of the current emergency projects and eventually future projects in education, food security, nutrition, protection, WASH sectors mainly in Cabo Delgado Province. She/he performs each activity according to the Code of Ethics in line with AVSI Mission, Values and Method and shares the organizational culture with colleagues, beneficiaries and all stakeholders. She\he is a role model in understating, sharing and adhering to AVSI core values and behaviors and ensures their adoption and implementation.

Reporting to:

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • To manage and coordinate the assigned project portfolio, including projects in direct management
  • To contribute to the recruitment, orientation and training of AVSI’s programme staff
  • To manage projects staff, promotion of capacity building and co-responsibility within the team, particularly vice-coordinators and junior PMs
  • To supervise and have the final responsibility for all project activities, and verify the correctness with respect to the project and financial planning and to the time schedule
  • In coordination with the operation department, guarantee the proper and efficient implementation of the assigned project portfolio
  • To be responsible for the logistic and administrative procedures for the assigned projects portfolio in concert with the Senior Management Team
  • In coordination with the Country Program, Communication and MEAL department, to monitor the progress of the projects in the emergency portfolio, and evaluation of the most significant experiences
  • To support collection and verify the project documentation necessary for the presentation of reports to the donor
  • To elaborate/review narrative reports as per donor procedures and proactive support for the preparation of financial report
  • To elaborate any other reports as required by local authorities and/or donor
  • To represent AVSI in relevant coordination structures (i.e. Clusters and Working groups) and other meetings at provincial/district level
  • To develop and maintain excellent relations with donors, partners and local authorities and with all stakeholders involved
  • To identify new donors and design new funding proposals
  • To carry-out any other duties and/or responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.

Essential Requirements

  • Education: University Degree in education, cooperation, international relations or simila
  • Solid knowledge of the emergency sector with proven experience in the field of at least 5 years
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language

Other required skills and experiences:

  • Good knowledge of Minimum Humanitarian Standards (SPHERE) and Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS)
  • Proficient knowledge of the main Office IT tools, in particular Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong capacities of financial management and planning
  • Leadership and training skill
  • Corporate managing and organizational skills
  • Capacities of managing of external audits
  • Previous work experience in the international cooperation sector in Africa or Mozambique and/or knowledge of Portuguese language is an added value
