Accounting Associate (Remote)

About This Role

Join charity: water as an Accounting Associate and launch your accounting career with a mission-driven organization. Reporting directly to the Controller, you'll be the Accounts Payable champion, ensuring financial compliance and accuracy across all expense transactions. This remote position offers hands-on experience in financial systems administration, accounting operations, and GAAP compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Review invoices, expense reports, and credit card expenses for accurate general ledger coding
• Investigate and respond to internal and vendor inquiries related to expense transactions
• Coach employees on navigating the expenditure system and mastering expense processes
• Perform system administrator tasks for expense management tools and platforms
• Support compliance initiatives including annual audits and 990 tax return preparation
• Participate in month-end close activities, preparing journal entries and reconciling accounts
• Contribute to the development of new accounting processes as the organization scales
• Handle additional administrative responsibilities and special projects as needed

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Proficient Microsoft Excel skills with ability to work with complex spreadsheets
• Exceptional communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities
• Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in financial data
• Demonstrated experience learning and implementing financial and administrative systems
• U.S. work eligibility without company sponsorship requirement

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ years of office work or customer service experience
• Formal Excel training or advanced certifications
• Experience with expense management platforms such as Concur
• Familiarity with ERP software such as NetSuite
