About the Role

Save the Children International is recruiting an experienced Advocacy Advisor (P3) to join its high-profile global Diplomacy and Engagement team.

The United Nations headquarters in New York and Geneva play a critical role in shaping children’s lives worldwide. This position focuses on advancing child rights through strategic advocacy at the UN, bridging local realities with global influence.

Key Responsibilities

Advocacy & Influence

  • Promote Save the Children’s priorities and key messages with UN policymakers, Secretariat, agencies, and Permanent Missions.
  • Lead advocacy on selected UN processes and priority initiatives.
  • Plan and deliver high-level meetings, events, and publication launches.

Strategy Development & Implementation

  • Coordinate team activities to deliver the annual work plan and global strategic objectives.
  • Support advocacy strategies during major moments such as the UN General Assembly (UNGA).
  • Provide project management support for the child rights portfolio.

Partnerships & Alliances

  • Build and strengthen relationships with NGO coalitions and UN partners.
  • Represent Save the Children credibly in UN and multilateral forums.

Child Participation and Safeguarding

  • Act as Child Safeguarding and Child Participation focal point for the team.
  • Deliver training, conduct risk assessments, and ensure policy compliance.
  • Facilitate safe and meaningful participation of children in UN processes.

Requirements

Essential

  • Proven experience in child rights, child participation, or child protection at national and/or international level.
  • Strong track record in advocacy and policy work, including developing and implementing high-impact strategies.
  • Ability to analyze complex policies and produce quality policy briefs and position papers.
  • Experience coordinating networks, building partnerships, and forging coalitions.
  • Solid understanding of the United Nations system and multilateral institutions.
  • Excellent project management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).
  • Strong commitment to child rights and Save the Children’s mission.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Human Rights, Child Rights, International Development, Law, or related field.

Advantageous

Knowledge of French, Spanish, or another official UN language.
