About This Role

charity: water is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer to lead the organization's finance function during a transformative period of growth and organizational evolution. Reporting directly to the President and serving on the Executive Team, you will provide strategic financial leadership across a ~$100M annual revenue nonprofit organization. This is a pivotal opportunity to stabilize core accounting operations while building forward-looking financial planning and analysis capabilities that support executive and board-level decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Organizational Leadership, Long-Range Planning & Board Engagement

  • Lead enterprise-level long-range financial planning, multi-year forecasting, and scenario modeling to inform strategic choices, investment pacing, and risk management
  • Serve as primary financial partner to the President and Executive Team, translating complex financial data into clear strategic narratives
  • Prepare and present financial results, forecasts, and long-term outlooks to the Board, managing relationships with Finance and Audit Committees
  • Support major strategic initiatives through rigorous financial analysis, due diligence, and comprehensive modeling
  • Direct organizational resources toward initiatives that maximize mission impact and operating efficiency

Financial Management & Stewardship

  • Lead all finance and accounting functions including nonprofit accounting operations, FP&A, treasury, cash management, and financial controls
  • Oversee annual and long-term budgeting processes aligned with organizational strategy and operational realities
  • Develop and maintain integrated financial models and performance metrics supporting monthly, quarterly, and strategic reporting
  • Oversee modernization of financial systems, including transition to NetSuite and enhancement of budgeting and forecasting tools
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and transparent financial reporting in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards
  • Oversee audit processes, insurance coverage, and regulatory compliance for US and UK entities

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in nonprofit accounting and financial leadership
  • Proven ability to stabilize finance functions while implementing strategic improvements
  • Strong expertise in financial planning, analysis, forecasting, and board communication
  • Experience managing complex, multi-entity financial operations
  • Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship

Location & Details

This is a remote position available to candidates in the United States. You will oversee financial operations for both US and UK entities, requiring coordination across international compliance frameworks.
