Director, Individual Giving
Job Description
About GiveDirectly
GiveDirectly is reshaping international giving by providing cash grants directly to the world's poorest populations. Since launching in 2011, GiveDirectly has raised over $1 billion and delivered cash to more than 2 million people across 15 countries. The organization has been recognized by Fast Company as one of the most innovative nonprofits and featured in the New York Times Magazine, This American Life, Foreign Affairs, and The Economist for its pioneering work in cash transfer programs.
The Brookings Institution estimates that $70 billion in cash transfers would be required to eliminate the global poverty gap, while the aid sector currently spends $135 billion annually on evidence-free interventions. GiveDirectly aims to establish cash transfers as the benchmark for foreign aid—comparable to how index funds serve as a benchmark in finance—thereby accelerating the end of extreme poverty.
About This Role
GiveDirectly is seeking a strategic and highly analytical Director of Individual Giving to lead and scale revenue from individual donors with lifetime giving under $50,000. This is a critical leadership position focused on expanding one of the organization's core growth priorities.
Individual giving represents a fundamental pillar of GiveDirectly's mission. A broad base of recurring supporters—combined with the ability to rapidly mobilize donors during emergency responses—is essential for delivering direct cash transfers to people in crisis and advancing progress toward ending extreme poverty. In 2025, this donor segment generated $46 million in revenue, representing 34% year-over-year growth from 2024.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic initiatives to accelerate individual donor revenue growth across multiple channels and segments
- Build and scale the bequests and legacy giving program from the ground level, establishing processes, messaging, and donor cultivation strategies
- Lead the individual giving team, setting performance targets and fostering a high-performing, analytical culture
- Design data-driven approaches to donor acquisition, retention, and lifetime value optimization
- Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, operations, and program teams to ensure donor communications align with organizational impact and values
- Analyze donor behavior, campaign performance, and market trends to inform strategic decisions
- Establish metrics and dashboards to track progress against growth objectives and identify optimization opportunities
About Our Culture & Team
GiveDirectly's culture is candid, analytical, agile, and deliberately non-hierarchical. The global team comprises approximately 150 headquarters staff and 650 country operations team members spanning 21 countries and 69 languages. Team members include software engineers, humanitarian workers, management consultants, public servants, researchers, and field operations specialists.
The organization prioritizes its values as central to decision-making: centering the people served, building an ambitious and dynamic environment, supporting high ownership and flexibility, fostering genuine care among team members, and creating professional growth opportunities. This is a remote position offering the flexibility to work from anywhere while contributing to meaningful, measurable global impact.

You'll work with a global team committed to evidence-based solutions to poverty, operate with high autonomy and analytical rigor, and directly contribute to expanding resources for life-changing cash transfers to vulnerable populations worldwide.
