The organization operates a global team of approximately 150 staff members at headquarters and 650 country operations personnel spanning 21 countries and 69 languages. GiveDirectly's culture is candid, analytical, agile, and non-hierarchical, with a diverse team including software engineers, humanitarian workers, management consultants, public servants, researchers, and field operations professionals.
The Role
GiveDirectly is seeking an experienced, business-oriented Head of People to design and run the human systems that power the organization's mission. In this strategic leadership position, you will connect talent to organizational performance in a global, distributed, and exceptionally lean context.
As Head of People, you will serve as both architect and hands-on operator across multiple critical functions:
- Talent Acquisition: Build and scale recruitment strategies to attract high-caliber professionals aligned with GiveDirectly's mission and values
- Organizational Design: Structure teams and roles to maximize effectiveness across a distributed global workforce
- Leadership Development: Create programs to develop current and future leaders within the organization
- Performance Management: Design and implement performance systems that drive accountability and growth
- Rewards & Compensation: Develop competitive, equitable compensation strategies for a global team
- HR Operations: Manage day-to-day HR functions and systems to support employee success
- Employee Relations: Foster a positive workplace culture and handle people-related challenges
Location & Work Arrangement
This is a remote position with a strong preference for candidates located in the East Africa Time (EAT) timezone or in any of GiveDirectly's countries of operation. If not located in the EAT timezone, the selected candidate must be able to overlap at least 3 hours daily with EAT for collaboration and meetings.
